state government trying to digitalize administration

Posted On:
Now the daily commuter in Chennai will not have to face repeated traffic jams as the government has planned to introduce digital boards of 4mx2m at six of the busiest junctures. Also they will be given SMS updates on traffic. The ACP, traffic, Mr. Sanjay Arora thinks that human interface is essential to control the traffic interface and has also ensured that the policemen undergo a training in soc

al media before they can be eligible to update the Digital Board as he doesn’t want something funny to come up.

This is one classic example of the state government trying to digitalize administration. Now with the advent of the digital era, the federal state of India is taking initiatives to combat administration problems through information and communication technology (ICT). And technology seems to be a better facilitator than unimplemented laws and statues!

On August 30th, at the India Telecom 2011, Kapil Sibal launched two mobile applications aiming to benefit the farmers stating that the national optical fibre should be used to benefit the commoner. The mobile applications are called, ‘Digital Mandi’ and ‘Mobile Social Networking’.
Digital Mandi developed by BSNL in collaboration with IIT Kanpur, will provide the farmers recent rates of various crops in the market and will help them decide the crops they want to grow. The application can function on any GPRS enabled device and is on a multi-modal format.

MNS is a mobile-exclusive social networking application akin to facebook and twitter. Through it, advertisers can send various offers to a mobile user. It has been developed by IIT Bombay.

Delhi Jal Board has also digitized its complaint system and incorporated SMS into it. So you text on a certain number and then their executive calls you back, takes down the details of your complaint and then tells you the estimated time that might be taken to solve your problem!

The Delhi Traffic police Facebook page is an all time popular with over 77000 fans and an update every hour! Also Mumbai traffic police has authorized radio one for of

Technology as propaganda is also taking up. The Maran run cable TV in Tamil Nadu is purely a DMK mouthpiece. In response to which the new Jaylalitha’s government has launched Arasu cable TV which provides 90 channels at the cost of Rs. 70 per channel. Prominent leaders like Sushma Swaraj and Rahul Gandhi tweet about their day to day activities and have certain propaganda to put forth to the digital readers.

Here is the moto of one of the facebook groups named Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena:

“A team of guys those who can die for the nation &........... oooppssss srrry. Not die we are dying frm last 1000 years, first Mughals killed us then Britishers killed us.& now the tratiors inside the Nation killing us.Now we will not die,If we will die, then who will give right treatment to the traitors & anti nationals. time has come to give reply to the peoples those who are trying to divide my nation from kashmir to Arunachal.I think indication is Enough.then why are you waiting. Join us & become threat for Anti nationals & Traitors.

Khoon se khelenge holi gr vatan mushkil me hai, sarfroshi ki tammana ab hmare dil me hai"

Also, Anna Hazare’s campaign for the Jan Lok Pal had minute by minute tweeting by Ms. Kiran Bedi and her tweets proved to be an instant source of information to the media and the people following the movement.

This clearly states that administration and propaganda, both are going online in the Indian state!
